FGCU Announces Strategic Gift from Lutgerts to Name College of Business, Construct New Academic Building
FORT MYERS, FL - Today, Florida Gulf Coast University announced a strategic gift from Raymond L. and Beverly Lutgert to the FGCU Foundation to enhance the future of the FGCU College of Business and the College's new classroom building slated for completion fall 2008.
The Lutgerts agreed to donate $5 million this year and FGCU will ask the Florida legislature to match the gift dollar-for-dollar in 2006 from the Alec P. Courtelis Facility Enhancement Challenge Grant Program. FGCU will use the $10 million, plus another $8.8 million approved by the Florida legislature, to enhance and enlarge construction of the Academic VI building to accommodate FGCU's growing College of Business.
Upon receipt of the gift and completion of the building, FGCU agrees to rename the College as the Lutgert College of Business and the new building as Lutgert Hall.
"We are delighted that Raymond and Beverly Lutgert are making such a generous gift to benefit FGCU's College of Business," President William C. Merwin said.
"Their support will provide our students with an engaging and stimulating learning environment that will have a positive impact not only on students' educational experiences but also on the entire Southwest Florida business community. The Lutgert reputation for quality is keenly compatible with our College of Business and its national achievements of excellence."
The Lutgerts believe the impact of the gift will bring forth a cohort of future executives and entrepreneurs with nationally viable skills into the rising economic setting of Southwest Florida.
"Southwest Florida's business community is greatly enhanced by the presence of Florida Gulf Coast University and its dynamic College of Business," Raymond Lutgert said. Lutgert's first development in Naples in 1964 established The Lutgert Companies.
"My wife, Beverly, and I recognize the great value of this higher education asset and we are pleased to provide a gift that will support and enhance FGCU's critical leadership in our region's business and economic growth."
The academic building is planned for 73,000 square feet and will house $550,000 worth of state-of-the-art equipment. It will be located near the front of the FGCU campus next to the planned School of Engineering building.
Building amenities include a financial trading room to provide a real-time connection and experience for investment classes.
"The FGCU Foundation is extremely pleased to accept this commitment from Raymond and Beverly Lutgert," chairman of the FGCU Foundation Board Joseph Catti said. "With this gift, FGCU is able to provide its students with a state-of-the-art learning environment so important to the growing College of Business at the University."
