FGCU Names New Director of Government Relations
9/1/2005

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the recent addition of Jennifer L. Goen of Fort Myers as director of Government Relations to work with local, state and federal government entities. She began her employment Aug. 29.

Goen comes to FGCU as senior legislative assistant to State Sen. Mike Bennett of the 21st District where she was responsible for administrative and public relations matters. Her work included management of delegation-approved appropriations requests from area local leaders to assist members with their mission to gain legislative approval for the various projects and funding sources. She drafted and analyzed substantive and fiscal related legislation, and managed the district duties for Charlotte, Lee and Sarasota counties.

"I am pleased to name Jennifer Goen as Florida Gulf Coast University's director of Government Relations," President William C. Merwin said. "Jennifer's legislative background and her experience as a lobbyist before the Florida Legislature uniquely qualify her to represent FGCU's interests at the local, state and federal levels as we seek critical support for our rapidly growing University."

Prior to working for Bennett, Goen was legislative affairs administrator for the Florida Housing Finance Corp. in Tallahassee, representing the corporation before the U.S. Congress, Florida legislature, governor's office and cabinet, and other state agencies.

Goen has been a special assistant to Florida Speaker Tom Feeney, chief of staff for State Rep. Greg Gay of the 74th District, and a case analyst for the Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement in Orlando and Fort Myers.

Goen earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., in 1988.

Goen is a member of the Florida 4-H board of directors, and a past president and current treasurer of the Rivers Edge II Condominium Association.

The Florida Affordable Housing Coalition awarded Goen the Special Friend of Affordable Housing award.
