FGCU Welcomes International Students, Faculty, Staff
to Southwest Florida Sept. 30
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to join in welcoming international students, faculty and staff, and students returning from study abroad to Southwest Florida during the ninth annual International Reception, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30 in the Student Union ballroom.
"The community is welcome and encouraged to attend. To date, we have had more than 45 countries represented by our international students," International Services and Student Life director Elaine Hozdik said.
"Additionally, a number of our students have studied abroad as part of their educational experience, to places such as Australia, Spain, Italy, Peru, Brazil, China and the Dominican Republic. Through our international and study abroad programs, we continue to add to our understanding of world cultures and perspectives through the diversity of our university community."
"We encourage members of our community who have an interest in international experiences to join us."
Sponsored by FGCU's Office of International Services and the International Club, the event is an opportunity to become acquainted with FGCU students from other countries or students who have studied abroad.
"This is a wonderful opportunity where the international and domestic students, staff and administration can fellowship with community members in developing a deeper interest and understanding of various cultures and study abroad opportunities at FGCU. Students who are interested in studying abroad, will have the opportunity to hear testimonials from those who recently returned from studying abroad" international services coordinator Timothy Gjini said.
FGCU highlights its international education initiatives, its commitment to offering education worldwide and its evolving international reputation. Several local community organizations that have an international or cultural interest also participate. A sampling of foods and flags from the international students' homelands are part of the reception.
