Twenty-five Teachers Complete FGCU Summer Teacher Immersion Program
FORT MYERS, FL - Twenty-five participants completed the summer Teacher Immersion Program June 30 at Florida Gulf Coast University making them eligible for employment in Southwest Florida school districts.
The Teacher Immersion Program, which is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, prepares qualified and quality teachers for grades K-12 to assume full time classroom responsibilities in Southwest Florida schools.
The Teacher Immersion Program develops participants' knowledge and skills relative to lesson planning, classroom management, best instructional practices and literacy strategies for content areas.
Unlike noncredit or continuing education programs, participants in the FGCU Teacher Immersion Program earn a total of 18 graduate credit hours, or approximately half the requirements for a master's degree.
During the summer, participants take three courses worth nine graduate credit hours toward professional certification and education competence.
The Teacher Immersion Program is an FGCU partnership program with area school districts that supports individuals who have an immediate interest in teaching careers.
