FGCU Presents 'Girls in Engineering, Math & Science' Workshop Oct. 14
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University College of Arts and Sciences and Office of Research & Sponsored Programs host 'Girls in Engineering, Math & Science,' or GEMS, workshop 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14 in Whitaker Hall for middle school girls from seven schools in Lee and Collier counties to learn about careers in the areas of engineering, science and mathematics.
This workshop provides participants with hands-on experience to engage in activities with science professionals in areas of marine science, environmental science, engineering, chemistry, biology, veterinary science, medicine, forensics, or biotechnology in actual classroom laboratories.
Program leader and assistant professor in the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics Terry Dubetz, and chair and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences Jo Ann Wilson direct the workshop.
The program is free to all participants. Lunch will be served at the end of the program.
Parents are welcome, but not required. All activities are supervised by FGCU staff. Another event is scheduled in the spring for additional local schools.
