FGCU Eagles Dedicate Opening Game to Devoted Fan
11/1/2006

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles dedicate the opening game of the 2006-07 basketball season at half-time Friday, Nov. 3 in memory of H. William Service who died earlier this year.

Bill Service was a dedicated fan and athletics booster who regularly attended games. He and his wife Ruth cheered on the team with their many friends from Riverwoods Plantation.

"Bill was well-loved at FGCU and will be missed at this and future games, but his memory will live on in our team spirit," FGCU Athletics Director Carl McAloose.

Bill and Ruth Service have been active supporters of education. In 1998, the couple encouraged their community to establish the Riverwoods Plantation Scholarship by making the lead gift. This scholarship continues in perpetuity to attract and assist deserving students from Estero High School.

For more information, media representatives should contact senior director of Advancement Judie Cassidy at (239) 590-1058, or Riverwoods Plantation contact LaVerne Thomas at (239) 947-1052.
