FGCU Opens 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile' Feb. 15
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University opens "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," written by Steve Martin and directed by Ronal Stepney, 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Arts Complex Black Box Theater.
Other evening performances are Feb. 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24. Matinees are 2 p.m., Sundays, Feb. 18, and 25.
The long running Off Broadway comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian café in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.
Bystanders, including Picasso's agent, the bartender and his mistress, an elderly philosopher and an obnoxious inventor, introduce additional flourishes of humor.
The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark haired singer time warped in from a later era.
Tickets may be purchased in advance beginning Monday, Feb. 5 at the Arts Complex Black Box Theater. General admission is $10 and student admission is free with ID. Admission for non FGCU students with student ID is $5, and FGCU faculty and staff with ID is $5. Seating is limited. FGCU recommends attendees purchase tickets in advance. Seating will not be permitted after the show begins.
