FGCU Hosts Diversity Week 2007 "Focus" Celebration April 1-April 6
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Office of Multicultural Student Development invites the public to attend the Diversity Week 2007 "Focus" Celebration, Sunday through Friday, April 1 through April 6. All events are free and open to the public. Times are subject to change.
Experience stimulating conversation with people from diverse backgrounds, try excellent cuisine from different ethnicities, hear lectures, and see performances and films from various cultural, religious, ethnic, and identity perspectives.
Diversity Week 2007 officially opens with "Live at the S.U.B. Apollo" for singing, dancing, and comedy at 6 p.m. All events are located in the Student Union ballroom.
Harambee Festival! begins 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 on the Student Union lawn. Ethnic clothing, jewelry, house décor and personal items from Minority Sales Vendors will be available for purchase. Also available is live entertainment featuring Dominic Gaudious who demonstrates the Australian Didgeridoo, reggae ensemble Front Page and African XULU tribe dance team UMDABU.
The Office of Multicultural Student Development and FGCU Student Government sponsors "Sankofa African American Museum on Wheels" 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 5 with a presentation at 9 a.m. The exhibit is a testament to the vast contributions that African Americans have made to this country and the world.
Spanning the period of 1860 to present Sankofa takes audiences on a journey through slavery, the era of King Cotton and the uplifting days of Emancipation.
