FGCU and Lee Memorial Health System Host
"End of Life Care" Conference
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University in joint sponsorship with Lee Memorial Health System present an interdisciplinary, one-day healthcare conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16 at Embassy Suites in Estero. The conference titled, "Body, Mind and Spirit, Managing End of Life Care - An Interdisciplinary Approach" features leading health professionals from the area who provide updates and insights on the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of end of life care.
Speakers include nurse practitioner Gwen Kolegue and colleagues from Lee Memorial Health System, who present "Overview and Trends in Palliative Medicine." Mental health professional Bill Enslen of Hope Hospice presents "Communicating with Patients and Families at End of Life." Nurse practitioner Marie Hepp presents "Dying and Death and Our Response." Dr. Philip Roland of Lee Memorial Health System presents "Dealing with Grief and Loss: A Health Provider's Perspective. Dr. Mary Stegman of Hope Hospice presents "Pain and Symptom Management at End of Life." FGCU Professor Barbara Kruse and assistant professor Shirley Ruder in the School of Nursing present "Spirituality and Coping at End of Life: The Role of the Health Provider." Instructor in the School of Nursing Jo Stecher presents "Allowing Natural Death Versus DNR: A Health Provider's Perspective."
Early bird registration of $125 for seven contact hours or $95 for no contact hours is due by Oct. 15, and includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day. From Oct. 15 until registration cut-off Nov. 9, registration fees are $135 for seven contact hours, $105 for no contact hours, and $60 with FGCU Student ID.
Seven continuing medical education (CME) units have been approved for M.D.s, and are pending for Registered Nurses, community health education specialists, social workers, mental health counselors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, chaplains, funeral home directors, and nursing home administrators.
The conference is also appropriate for hospital, hospice, agency, or church participants working in a paid or volunteer capacity with an aging population.
