FGCU Presents 'Girls in Engineering, Math and Science' Workshop Feb. 9
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University College of Arts and Sciences and by grant support from the American Honda Association will host 'Girls in Engineering, Math and Science,' or GEMS, workshop 9 a.m. to noon., Saturday, Feb. 9 in Whitaker Hall for middle school girls from seven schools in Lee County to learn about careers in the areas of engineering, science and mathematics.
This workshop provides participants with hands-on experience to engage in activities with science professionals and FGCU students in areas of chemistry, biology, health professions and biotechnology in actual classroom laboratories.
Program leader and associate professor in the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics Terry Dubetz, and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences Jo Ann Wilson direct the workshop.
The program is free to all participants.
Parents are welcome, but not required. All activities are supervised by FGCU staff. Another event is scheduled in March for additional local schools in Collier County. FGCU GEMS will host a summer program June 23-29 for girls in Lee and Collier counties.
