FGCU Computing Services Establishes Endowed Scholarship
FORT MYERS, FL - Employees and friends of Florida Gulf Coast University's department of Computing Services recently established an endowed scholarship fund to financially assist qualified students enrolled in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science studies. Scholarships from the Computing Services Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded after the fund reaches $10,000.
During the annual FGCU Funds for Excellence Campaign for faculty and staff, director of Computing Services Mary Banks made the commitment to create a scholarship to assist students who are passionate about the field of computer science. Banks was motivated to do something that would benefit students and demonstrate how the University values their contributions.
"We in Computing Services are committed to serving our students and are excited about the opportunity to help aspiring information technology majors," said Banks.
The department of Computing Services provides daily computing support and network services to faculty and staff at the University. Student employees make up 33 percent of the department, and 28 percent of permanent employees have degrees from FGCU.
