FGCU Staff Member Establishes Endowed Scholarship for Haitian Students
FORT MYERS, FL -Florida Gulf Coast University staff member Linda Guerrine and family recently established an endowed scholarship fund to financially assist qualified students of Haitian descent. Scholarships from the "Diana Nerestant Memorial Scholarship Fund" will be awarded after the fund reaches $10,000.
FGCU alumna Guerrine is also currently pursuing a Master's in Business Administration, and is the director of annual giving for the FGCU Foundation. Guerrine became motivated to create this scholarship to honor her mother who passed away 14 years ago. The vision of the scholarship is to provide Haitian students with deceased mothers the opportunity to achieve the dream of earning a college degree.
"What started out as a meaningful way to keep the memory of my mother alive is now an opportunity for me to serve as an inspiration for my peers. This scholarship will produce many talented Haitian students and create a continuous cycle of perseverance, excellence and change," said Guerrine.
"Establishing this scholarship would not be possible without the out-pouring support of family, friends, and most important, my colleagues at Florida Gulf Coast University."
