FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw to Be Installed March 28
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University will install its third president, Dr. Wilson G. Bradshaw, 1 p.m., Friday, March 28 in Alico Arena on campus. The event is open to the general public as well as the University community. Following the ceremony Dr. and Mrs. Bradshaw will receive guests during a reception in the Alico auxiliary gym.
President Bradshaw was unanimously selected by the FGCU Board of Trustees to lead the institution and took office November 13, succeeding William C. Merwin who retired from the presidency earlier last year.
The inauguration event will include a presidential address and a processional of faculty, senior administrators, trustees, delegates from other colleges and universities, international students, local and state officials, all in academic regalia representing their respective institutions of higher education. The processional represents the unity of purpose in all higher education: the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
"The inauguration of FGCU's third president will help continue the momentum of a growing and thriving campus," said Steve Magiera, vice president for University Advancement. "It will initiate more traditions that help define culture on our relatively new campus; and it will attract community and state leaders as well as the general public to an attractive campus that all stakeholders are proud to claim."
"The inauguration of a new president is an exciting and hopeful time for a campus," said Audrea Anderson, chair of the inauguration committee. "The ceremony itself celebrates past achievements and looks forward to the new era that an incoming president brings. Through the inaugural address, we learn much about the new president's vision for the institution and how he plans to accomplish his goals."
