FGCU Bower School of Music String and Wind Orchestras Perform April 17
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Bower School of Music presents a combined performance of the FGCU String, Wind and Symphony Orchestras, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 17 in the Student Union ballroom. They will be conducted by Rod M. Chesnutt and joined by oboe soloist Aaron Hilbun. The performance is free and open to the public.
Hilbun, instructor in the Bower School of Music, performs "Concerto in A Minor for Oboe and Strings" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Other works in the program include "Coronation March for Alexander III" by Tchaikovsky, "Commando March" by Samuel Barber and "Carmen Suite" by Bizet.
Chesnutt is associate professor and Head of Instrumental Music in the Bower School of Music where he teaches courses in music education, wind literature and conducting. He is also a well-known arranger of music, with his arrangements performed by notable ensembles such as the U.S. Army Field Band. Chesnutt also wrote the music to FGCU's fight song, which debuted last November at the FGCU women's basketball home-opener game.
