Win Performance Excellence Awards from SBDC Network
FORT MYERS, FL - Staff members of the Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center were recognized at the annual Florida SBDC Network (FSBCN) Professional Development Conference in Daytona Beach on June 18. The "Florida Star of the Year" recognition was awarded to staff member Julio Estremera. The award will be presented at the National Association of Small Business Development Conference Sept. 5 in Chicago.
Estremera, nominated by the FGCU Small Business Development Center, was recognized as the FSBCN employee whose contributions to the SBDC program were exemplary with respect to new program development, innovative special projects, client impact and/or overall Network performance. He is a major contributor to the SBDC's annual counseling goals and client activities. Last year, Estremera provided counseling to 343 clients.
With the growing Hispanic business market in Southwest Florida, Estremera's bilingual skills are in high demand. He developed multiple SBDC seminars that he presents in English and Spanish. Estremera knows no barriers to service and is known for integrity as he represents FGCU and the SBDC.
Additional winners selected from the FGCU SBDC team were Jill Belcher for "Employee of the Year" and SBRN member Jim Jacoby for "Volunteer of the Year." The FGCU team took first place overall. Individual winners were Peter Keating of Charlotte County SBDC who took second place, and Sean Moore of Glades and Hendry Counties SBDC, who was chosen as overall individual first place winner. Each region was judged on participation, effort, camaraderie, training events and team display.
