FGCU Names New General Manager of WGCU Public Media
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Ronald Toll announces the appointment of Rick Johnson as general manager of WGCU Public Media, FGCU's public broadcasting radio and television station, effective October 20.
Johnson comes to FGCU with over 30 years of public broadcasting experience. Currently, he is the senior vice president for Radio and Television Programming and Production at WJCT-TV/FM (PBS/NPR) in Jacksonville, Fla. Previously, he held the position of station manager at WFSU-TV at Florida State University. He also held positions at public broadcasting stations in Seattle, Wash., Albuquerque, N.M. and at an ABC affiliate in Green Bay, Wis.
"Rick comes to us at an exciting time, as we are transitioning from analog to digital and HD radio and TV," said Toll. "We are fortunate to have him join us in this key leadership position with FGCU's radio and television station, and look forward to working with him as our University moves into its second decade."
Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, where he also engaged in post graduate studies in 1974.
Johnson replaces general manager Kathleen Davey, dean for Academic & Media Technology Services who is retiring later this semester after 14 years of dedicated service to FGCU and WGCU.
"Davey has been instrumental in establishing WGCU as a strategic asset for Southwest Florida. Moreover, she has exceptionally contributed to the success of FGCU. On behalf of the entire FGCU family we thank her and wish her well as she transitions into retirement," said Toll.
