FGCU and Career Learning Company Team to Provide Certification Training in High-Demand Areas
5/12/2009

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Lutgert College of Business recently partnered with Career Learning Company to provide certification training in high-demand areas, such as healthcare and information technologies and administration.

The partnership and its associated eCertificationLab (www.eCertificationLab.org) provide individuals the necessary skills to earn nationally recognized certifications in healthcare and information technologies and administration. The main beneficiaries of the program will be underemployed, unemployed, disabled, or dislocated workers and students, and also individuals interested in changing careers or improving their information-age skills.

FGCU's eCertificationLab has also teamed with the regional centers for workforce development and other government agencies to help potential participants qualify for stimulus funding. In most cases, this funding could provide 100% tuition.

The short certification and training courses (most, lasting only one to six months) are taught using innovative, individualized, mentor-assisted, self-paced learning technologies. Students and participants can set their own learning schedule and pace, depending on their needs and career goals.

The eCertificationLab is committed to research and development of new training and certifications and constantly reviews and evaluates the best learning practices and technologies to meet the special needs of all the students and participants.

Most certification and training courses are offered live in a central location using mentor-assisted, self-paced classes. The facility located at 8695 College Parkway, Suite 1061 in Fort Myers, opened May 1. Some online courses are being developed to provide access to the disabled or geographically-bound individuals at remote locations.

Professor and director of Grants and Research and Institute for Technological Innovation Walter Rodriguez, who also directs the eCertificationLab stated, "Re-training and certification may be the quickest path to high-demand jobs, as academicians, we are fortunate to partner with very experienced certification professionals at Career Learning Company." In turn, president of Career Learning Company Glenn Peterson said, "Florida Gulf Coast University is held to excellent national educational standards, it is an honor to join forces with FGCU Lutgert College of Business to infuse that same quality to certification and training programs in the area."
