Schexnayder Named Assistant Vice President for Office of Community Relations

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the appointment of Kenneth Schexnayder to the position of Assistant Vice President for Community Relations and Marketing. He joined the University on September 14.

Schexnayder is excited to join FGCU. "I'm impressed with the university's vision, its ambition, and with the collegial atmosphere on campus," he said. "During this time of growth and transition, it's a privilege to serve in a role that reaches out to so many people in Southwest Florida and beyond. I'm delighted to be part the FGCU community."

Schexnayder served as Dean for Institutional Advancement at Johnson State College in Vermont from 2005 to 2009. His management portfolio included communications and marketing, development and alumni relations, and admissions and financial aid.

In 2001, he joined the advancement staff at Vanderbilt University where he served as executive director for Advancement Communications. In 1989, he joined the advancement staff at the University of Vermont where he created and oversaw the office of Advancement Communications.

Schexnayder earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Montana in 1982, and has published poetry in magazines and anthologies, and travelled Vermont with the reading group Onion River Poets. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Memphis State University in 1980. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer, Community Development Specialist from 1982 to 1983, and served as a photographer in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976.

Schexnayder replaces Associate Vice President for Community Relations and Marketing Audrea Anderson, who retired August 31 after nine years of service to the University.
