FGCU Small Business Development Center Presents "Turning Your Passion to Profit"
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) presents "Turning Your Passion to Profit," an educational workshop and mini tradeshow for new and existing entrepreneurs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at Lutgert Hall located on campus.
The full and half day workshops will focus on subjects that pertain to the small business owner. Questions about accounting/taxes, legal issues, funding, and information technology will be discussed.
"Now more than ever, business owners need to be prepared and understand the changes in the business environment," said Suzanne Specht, assistant director of the SBDC. "Business owners have to work harder and smarter to keep their doors open, and this workshop is going to provide the necessary resources to do just that, in one place and in one day."
Local experts in their respective professions will teach the six, one-hour courses. There are 13 classes to choose from including lunch. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose which courses will benefit them and their business.
"We are very excited to take part in this workshop to offer our services to entrepreneurs and business owners,” said Marie Grasmeier, of Marie Grasmeier & Michael Willis, CPAs. "Often, we meet business owners who come into our firm and have many questions regarding their business practices, sometimes before it's too late; by providing this workshop some of those questions hopefully can be answered."
In addition to the workshops, a mini tradeshow will take place for attendees to pick up important business information. A portion of the proceeds raised from the workshop will be donated to the Small Business Resource Network (SBRN) scholarship fund for small business owners. SBRN members will be on hand providing assistance and guidance throughout the day.
Luncheon speakers will include Gene Landrum, who created the Chuck E. Cheese's concept of family entertainment, and author of several books including the recent release of Entrepreneurial Genius - The Power of Passion (Brendan Kelly Publishing); and Lorna Kibbey, president of Kibbey Leadership Solutions, who will address the audience on networking tips that will get you noticed.
Sponsors of the event include Southwest Florida Business Today, Roetzel & Andress, Attorneys, Marie Grasmeier & Michael Willis, CPAs, Key Bank, Sign-A-Rama, Majestic Graphics & Print Imaging, GSW Consulting, ADP Business Services and Overnight Production Services.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast. The full day six-course workshop is $79 in advance or $99 at the door. Half day three-course workshop is $49 in advance and $69 at the door. Both workshop fees include lunch.
