FGCU Art Gallery Opens "Nature, Revisions, and Dreams" with Reception Aug. 26
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University's Art Gallery opens its first exhibition of the 2010-2011 Season of the Arts with "Nature, Revisions, and Dreams" by Troy Abbott, Adam Chapman, Catherin Chauvin, Enrique Gomes de Molina, Mia Mulvey and James Prosek; and curated by Gallery interim director Anica Sturdivant. The exhibition opens at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26 in the Art Gallery located at FGCU's Arts Complex. The exhibition runs through Sept. 30.
Rooted in scientific and wildlife art probing the space between knowing, not knowing and imagining, these artists have been chosen for their surrealistic edge and their exploration of the physical, emotional and spiritual relationships between humans, nature and machines. Gomez de Molina, Mulvey and Prosek explore these junctions and fantasies through the more traditional methods of painting and sculpture, weaving together impossible but beautiful hybrids and installations that inspire wonder and delight. Chapman, Chauvin and Abbott take on the fleeting, euphoric moments when the mechanics of the world flash briefly into focus. Together, these artists merge the dynamic possibilities of nature, revisions, and dreams.
The exhibition is supported by WGCU Public Media.
The Arts Complex is located on FGCU's main campus, east of I-75 between exits 123 and 128. Free parking is available in Lot 7 for Arts Complex visitors. Parking passes are available at the parking booth located along the University's entrance.
