Rosemary M. Thomas Named Vice President for University Advancement at FGCU
12/7/2011

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University President, Dr. Wilson G. Bradshaw, announced today the appointment of Dr. Rosemary M. Thomas as the new vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the FGCU Foundation. Dr. Thomas comes to FGCU from Salisbury University (SU) where she serves as vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the SU Foundation. She will join the FGCU community on February 20.

"I am delighted Dr. Rosemary Thomas will lead the University's advancement initiatives, including fundraising, alumni affairs, community relations, and marketing," said President Bradshaw. "These programs are critical to the University's continuing growth and development, and Dr. Thomas' background and experience make her an excellent choice as our vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the FGCU Foundation. I look forward to working with her and the members of the FGCU Foundation Board of Directors as we build on our successful legacy of friend-and fund-raising."

In her new role at FGCU, Dr. Thomas will lead the university's fundraising, alumni relations, and community relations and marketing initiatives. She will also serve as a member of the president's Cabinet, the University's executive leadership group.

"I am honored to know that I will be part of Dr. Bradshaw's leadership team-serving Florida Gulf Coast University," said Dr. Thomas. "The tremendous growth and developments across the campus are attracting the attention of friends, patrons, and donors throughout Florida and beyond-for good reason. The opportunity to develop relationships on behalf of FGCU, and to shape alumni relations for current and future generations is truly energizing."

In a note to the Salisbury University campus, President Janet Dudley-Eshbach said, "Dr. Thomas has been a trusted confidant and adviser for me and her colleagues. Her energy and enthusiasm...have resulted in many successful events and programs across campus and the larger community."

Dr. Thomas has served as Advancement vice president and Foundation executive director at two institutions. She has created and developed alumni programs, designed and launched marketing and branding initiatives, and developed comprehensive fundraising campaigns. At three of her previous institutions, she has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Named by The Daily Record, a statewide newspaper, as one of the "Top 100 Women in Maryland," Dr. Thomas has been recognized for the "Most Improved Fundraising Program" by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. An engaged community activist, volunteer, and leader, she has committed her time and energy to supporting a range of community organizations, including the American Cancer Society, American Legion Auxiliary, the General Federation of Women's Clubs, and the United Way among others.

Dr. Thomas received her doctorate in Educational Leadership Studies at West Virginia University, and is a graduate of Harvard University's post-doctoral Institute for Education Management. Thomas earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1992, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Clemson University in 1990.
