FGCU Invites Community to Research Day 2012, April 20
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to attend the 11th annual Research Day, 11 a.m., Friday, April 20 at Alico Arena. The event highlights and celebrates the efforts of many dedicated people and programs at FGCU, while at the same time educating the general public about the substantial contributions to research and education that are made by predominately undergraduate institutions.
This year, 250 posters will be on display beginning at 11 a.m. in Alico Arena. The day concludes with an award ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
The posters represent a vast array of scholarship in the hard sciences, social sciences, business, health and education. In an effort to encourage more humanist participation and give students and faculty an opportunity to present in accordance with the peer-review standards of their respective disciplines, an oral presentation category was added as part of Research Day 2012. Oral presentations will be heard on Thursday, April 19, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Hospitality Suite of Alico Arena. Oral presentations will continue at 9 a.m. on Friday, and will run all day. A detailed program, including the oral presentation schedule can be accessed at: http://www.fgcu.edu/ORSP/ResearchDay.html.
Cash awards include a $1,000 prize for the overall winner of the faculty/staff Research Day poster competition, a $500 award for faculty and staff poster winners in each academic area, and a $300 award for student poster winners in each academic area.
Judges for the faculty poster competition include a member of the FGCU Senate Grants and Research Team, the Faculty Senate President, and external judges from across the country and local community.
