FGCU Bower School of Music Offers Beginning Children's Piano Classes
FORT MYERS, FL - Enrollment is under way for 6-and 7-year-olds to study music in a beginning children's piano class to be held weekly during the 2012-2013 academic year at the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University.
The class meets at 4 p.m. on Mondays, for a total of 12 sessions each semester in the FGCU electronic piano laboratory starting September 10. Professor Joanne Smith, Bower School of Music piano and pedagogy faculty, assisted by college students enrolled in Piano Pedagogy I and II, will teach the classes.
The beginning piano class includes all fundamental music skills with an emphasis on music making and reading. Weekly performance in class builds confidence and provides a creative and joyful environment for musical growth. During the first year of study, all piano instruction takes place in a class setting with the children participating in recitals at the end each semester. Fluent reading and access to a piano for daily practice is required of all participants.
Parents interested in making an appointment to determine their child's readiness for piano study should email Joanne Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org, and include a phone number to enable individual scheduling.
Cost of the class is $450 per semester. An initial payment of $150 is required after readiness for study has been determined. The balance of $300 is due before the first day of class. Full tuition for second semester is due by November 9.
