What: One-day Advancing Student Participation in Research Experiences (ASPiRE) undergraduate mathematics conference.
When: Friday, Jan. 25, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: FGCU Academic Building 7 (AB7)
Why: ASPiRE is an undergraduate math mini-conference intended to educate students about what it means to do "mathematics research" as undergraduates and inform students of ways in which they can engage in math research at the undergraduate level.
Three external speakers with extensive experience running NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer programs will describe prior REU projects completed by students, describe ideas for future REU projects, and offer advice about the application process.
Local faculty engaged in joint work with students will have the opportunity to speak about their current and ongoing research projects. Afternoon sessions will be devoted to student research presentations.
