Amy Swingle

Amy is originally from Illinois and graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  She completed her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration at Central Michigan University and worked for the University Recreation department as a graduate assistant.  After two years in the cold, Amy headed south to Texas which became her second home. She worked at the University of Texas for two years and then Sam Houston State University for 11 years.  Before joining the team at FGCU, Amy worked for just over four years at Mississippi University for Women, building the program and constructing the Stark Recreation Center.

Stacy Hopkins
Stacy Hopkins was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and has lived in many interesting places due to her father being in the military. She graduated from a local high school, attended college at the University of Florida but settled back in Fort Myers to raise her family. Stacy started working at Florida Gulf Coast University in December 2000 and transferred to Campus Recreation in Spring 2013. Her hobbies include reading, watching movies, Pilates and spending time with her family – particularly her granddaughter, Chloe.


Sharon McLaughlin
Sharon was born in Massachusettes and attended Berkshire Christian College.  Upon graduating, she moved to Fort Myers where she spent the last 24 years working first in the Banking Industry and then as a Business Manager.  Sharon has also lived in Appleton, Wisconsin where she worked at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, as well as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she worked as an accountant for the Western PA Divisional Headquarters for the Salvation Army.  She joined the staff at FGCU in June 2013 and handles all department accounts and purchasing.  When football season starts, you will see lots of Green and Gold as she is a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan!

Suzanne Ries 

Suzanne is a Michigan native where she attended Spring Arbor University. She graduated with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Recreation Administration. She also served as the Women’s Intramural Director at SAU, beginning her passion for university recreation. Suzanne completed her Masters Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration at Central Michigan University while also serving as a Graduate Assistant for University Recreation. Prior to joining the FGCU Campus Recreation staff in August 2010, Suzanne worked at Mississippi University for Women for four years where she helped establish a campus recreation program and opened the Stark Recreation Center.

Chad Caldwell

Chad is originally from DeLand, Florida. He attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as an undergraduate where he studied business.  Through the course of his undergraduate studies he developed a passion for recreation and became involved in special events and facilities as a student employee.  He received his Master’s degree from Ole Miss in Parks & Recreation Management where he also served as a facilities graduate assistant for campus recreation. Emma Reeners

Emma is originally from Rochester, New York where she attended The College at Brockport State University of New York. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology but following her passion for aquatics and programming she received her Masters in Recreation and Leisure Services Management. Emma left New York and joined the Campus Rec staff in May of 2009. She is very active and enjoys playing hockey for her Gulf Coast Sea-Gals travel team.

Shomari Kee
Shomari joined the staff in March 2015 and is responsible for oversight of Campus Rec programs and marketing . He is a native of Shelby, North Carolina and attended East Carolina University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, he moved to Illinois to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He worked as the Graduate Assistant of Intramural & Club Sports in the Division of Campus Recreation while receiving his Master’s degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism. In 2006, Shomari began his professional career in collegiate recreation in Washington, DC where he served as the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports at The George Washington University. In 2011,he took the position of Assistant Director of Intramural & Club Sports at American University. He served four years at AU while being recognized as a Certified Pool Operator and working as the Interim Aquatic Coordinator. While in DC, he met his wife Silvana; they have two sons, Shomari II and Obadiah. Shomari enjoys spending time with his family and is a passionate fan of college football and the New York Mets

Carl Bleich
Carl was born in Michigan but moved to Southwest Florida in 2001. He earned his bachelor's degree in communication from FGCU and also worked for FGCU Campus Recreation as an intramural supervisor and official. He then spent nearly two years in Savannah, Georgia working as an intramural sports graduate assistant at Armstrong Atlantic State University while earning his master's degree in Adult Education & Community Leadership. Carl loves to watch collegiate sporting events and has supported all of Dunk City's sports teams since day one. He was even a member of the first FGCU basketball pep band in 2003. Carl has a passion for intramural sports and special events and is excited to be working at his alma mater. 
Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator

Billy Marcantel

Billy grew up in Tennessee, where after graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment, he served for six years in locations including Iceland, Iraq and the Florida Panhandle. Afterwards, he decided to follow his love of the outdoors and received his bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation from Middle Tennessee State University. During this time he worked for MTSU’s Outdoor Pursuits program and then went on to Louisiana State University. At LSU he completed his Master’s in Sport Management, and served as LSU UREC’s first Adventure Education graduate assistant. Billy joined the FGCU team in the summer of 2014. Some of his favorite outdoor activities include fishing, climbing, and kayaking.

Julia Stulock

Julia is a Michigan native and graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where she earned her degree in psychology.  Julia then decided to pursue her Master’s Degree in Sport Management at the University of Connecticut. She worked as a graduate assistant for UConn’s club sports program and remained an active member of the UConn running club during that time. Julia also serves on the Board for the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association, where she oversees special events.

Megan Normansell

Megan is from the village of New Concord, Ohio. She is a recent graduate of Ohio University where she studied communication and theater. Megan has always been a sports fan and started working for Intramural Sports at OU in 2012.  She loves FGCU and plans to continue pursuing a career within Campus Recreation.

Dan is originally from Troy, IL and attended college at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  He received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice Studies with a minor in Psychology, but decided to follow his passion for fitness becoming an ACE Certified Personal Trainer as well as Crossfit Level-2 Instructor.  Prior to joining the FGCU Campus Recreation staff, he was the General Manager of a Crossfit facility.  He is very active and enjoys competing in Crossfit competitions.
