Proper Fitness Center Etiquette

There is a lot that can be said for proper etiquette in the Fitness Center. We all utilize the fitness center and look forward to training in a safe and motivating atmosphere. Some simple things to keep in mind when you are utilizing the center are as follows:

  • Be courteous to your fellow members by wiping down machines after use.
  • Always remember to put back your weights. As the saying goes, "Half the workout is loading and unloading the bars".
  • If you come across a machine that is not functioning properly, notify the staff on duty.
  • When utilizing the scales in the locker rooms, please set them back to zero. This will prevent inaccurate readings.
  • Be careful and observant of other members around you.
  • Dropping dumb bells is dangerous not only to the equipment (which you pay for), but you could also injure another member's foot or ankle.
  • Be mindful of how you express yourself and the language you utilize. This is a university setting and all of us should strive to express ourselves in an educated and professional manner.

The biggest point here is to come in, have fun, and enjoy your workouts.  But please be conscious of your actions and how your fellow students, staff and faculty perceive those actions.
