FGCU Fishing Opportunities


FGCU Fishing Tournaments

 

Tourney Dates: January 13th, February 3rd, March 3rd, April 21st, & June 9th.


 

This is a (Catch & Release, No Live Bait!) tournament that focuses on environmental ethic.  No dead catches will be weighed. 

 

This tournament starts at 6am and starts the completes at noon.  If boats are not back to the dock by noon to weigh their fish, that team is automatically disqualified. 

 

This tournament has a $25.00 entry fee and only FGCU affliates are able to attend. 

 

Sign-ups will begin two weeks before each tournament.  A limited number of participants will be allowed. 

 

Only non-motorized tandem boats will be allowed!   FGCU's waterfront has 10 tandem boats for reservation. Participants must notify the waterfront staff at the time of entrance if they want to use on the of the tandem kayaks, canoes, or paddleboats.

 

Bass Pro Shop is sponsoring the event and will be helping with the post tournament prizes.  

 

FGCU Fishing Access Card

They are Free for FGCU Affiliates!  They are for educational & access purposes.  Simply show your FGCU ID & a Florida fishing license to a FGCU Outdoors staff member at the waterfront on north beach and they will issue a card free of charge.  This card is issued to ensure that all persons fishing know the rules of the lake and are respectful of the surrounding environment.

FGCU Fishing Card Access - Curriculum Outline

  1. FGCU Lake / Land Boundaries
  2. Leave No Trace Principles
  3. Catch & Release Rules
  4. The rules in regards to, the use of or catching bait on FGCU Property.
  5. FGCU affiliated personal only, others must be removed from the grounds immediately due to lake use agreement with Miromar & Liability.
  6. Patrol of the area will be done as normal by campus police.  Although recreation staff may ask to see a person's card that is fishing at any time.  If not in compliance then campus police may be notified.  
  7. No vessels are permitted on the FGCU / Miromar waters that are not owned by the university.  Private motorboats, jet skis, sailboats, or other non approved vessels, no matter the size are strictly prohibited.   
  8. No Feeding any wildlife- (Especially Gators which is a Felony)
  9. You must have a valid Florida Fishing License.
