Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Institutional Statement 2009-2010 Catalog Year

Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is a community committed to ensuring equity and fairness for all faculty, staff, students, visitors, vendors and volunteers. We are committed to these principles as essential for a distinguished university. By cultivating human diversity, we ensure an inclusive learning environment that is welcoming regardless of one’s cultural, racial/ethnic and religious background, as well as gender, age, color, national origin, creed, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or status as a Vietnam-era veteran or disabled veteran.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws and University regulations, policies and practice, FGCU does not condone discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment, on any basis. Specifically, FGCU will comply with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act as amended; the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended; the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Sections 503 and 504 as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and other relevant Federal and State statutes regarding nondiscrimination.

In addition to its stance on nondiscrimination, the University subscribes to and will enforce all policies regarding the prohibition of any form of illegal harassment, including sexual harassment in the classroom and workplace. All employment actions will support equal opportunity and will move the University toward achieving its inclusionary objectives. Further, FGCU’s policies cover access and equity in the conduct of programs, services and activities throughout all divisions, departments and units of the University.

Questions regarding this institutional statement or compliance with its provisions should be directed to the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance at (239) 590-7405, or outside Lee County (800) 590-3428.
