Ph.D. in Finance, Kent State University (1991)Dr. Daniel J. Borgia is a Professor of Finance and a founding faculty member of the Lutgert College of Business. He was the 2002 - 2003 China Fulbright Scholar at Nanjing University at Nanjing, PR China. Dr. Borgia is the former founding director of the Florida Gulf Coast University Institute of Chinese Studies, the former founding director of the Southwest Florida Chinese Language School, a former Vice President for the Southwest Florida Chinese Association, and a former Vice President for the Speaker's Assembly of Southwest Florida. Dr. Borgia has been teaching and consulting in the field of finance since 1986. In 1995, he received the Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) Award from the State of Florida in recognition of his excellence and innovation in teaching. Dr. Borgia received his Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Cornell University in 1981, an MBA from Gannon University in 1986, and his Ph.D. in Finance from Kent State University in 1991. Dr. Borgia has a broad publication record, writing on topics that include international business and finance with particular reference to China, corruption, financial services, financial education, exporting, entrepreneurship, regional unemployment, third world capital market development, and the impact on economic development resulting from tax law changes. In 1999, Dr. Borgia received the "Distinguished Research Award" at the Allied Academies National Conference for his research on entrepreneurial learning habits. His current research interests are centered on the development of the Chinese economy and financial system and its relationship with the United States. Dr. Borgia is a popular news media spokesperson on topics such as the US and Chinese economies, the stock market, personal financial planning, tax issues, and other business topics. Dr. Borgia frequently travels to China to teach, lecture, and conduct business. Together with his wife Jia, a native of China, Dr. Borgia owns a home in Tang Shan, China.
