James C. Vail

Member of LCOB Advisory Council

Jim Vail is a retired US Navy Supply Corps Captain. At his last tour of duty, as director of program and budget for Navy Logistics, he was awarded the Legion of Merit.

He received his M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School

Prior to joining FGCU he was SVP and Chief of Staff at CACI International, a Washington, DC-based company providing systems design, software development, and intelligent document management for the Federal Government. An independent survey named CACI the best managed company in the industry.

Since 1998 he has taught Information Systems Management at the undergraduate, graduate, and Executive MBA levels at FGCU. He was the recipient of the first university-wide Teaching Excellence Award in 2002 and has authored and co-authored several published papers and EMBA-level case studies.

Since 2004 Jim has been lead instructor for design and delivery of an executive-level session for EMBA students from Würzburg University (Germany). In 2013, he was appointed to FGCU’s Lutgert College of Business Advisory Council.

Jim has offered consulting services in management of acquisitions, information systems, project management, and incentive compensation. He is an expert on the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley in due diligence. His work has included an IT evaluation for a major retirement community and a re-architecture of collaborative workflow processes for an area nonprofit.
