February 2017: CFA Event at FGCU

The 2017 Florida CFA (Chartered Financial Analysts) Investment Research Challenge will be held at the Lutgert College of Business at FGCU in February 2017. This event is sponsored by the CFA Society Naples, in conjunction with other Florida CFA societies and the CFA Institute, the international-level organization.

December 2016: Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program

Southwest Florida veterans can now apply for the second installment of the Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program. The application deadline is Dec. 14 for the free program. The Institute for Entrepreneurship (IFE) at FGCU is a network partner of the program.   More at Florida Weekly

Joe Groch accepts PGA award

November 15, 2016: Joe Groch Wins PGA Award

Joe Groch is the Player Development Coordinator in the PGA Golf Management Program at FGCU. He was given the 2016 Horton Smith Award by the South Florida PGA at the SFPGA Awards night at Grey Oaks Country Club. The photo shows Joe accepting the award.

The Horton Smith Award recognizes golf professionals who provide outstanding and continuous contributions in developing and improving educational opportunities for the PGA Professional.

2016 FGCU Jones Cup team

November 2, 2016: FGCU Team Takes Jones Cup Second Place

The PGA Jones Cup is an annual 36-hole event. Each of the 19 universities that sponsor the PGA Golf Management program showcases the talents of five players in the team event. This year, FGCU's team led after the first round, and eventually took second place, 3 strokes behind the winning team.

Keith Basik, Veteran and Inventor

November 1, 2016: Veterans to Entrepreneurs

Keith Basik is a US Army Veteran and a runner. He had an idea for a Flip Towel, a wristband that turns into a towel. He was one of the 166 veterans who were part of the Statewide Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program first class of students. Basik and 32 others participated in the program at FGCU's Institute for Entrepreneurship (IFE). He credits the program with helping him raise funds to get his invention to market.

Dr. Sandra Kauanui is the IFE Director. She comments on the "thank-yous" that she gets from participants in the program.

BB&T Free Enterprise Lecture Series

October 17, 2016: BB&T Free Enterprise Lecture Series

The topic for the latest in this Lecture Series was Entreprenership, Economic Freedom and Prosperity. The speaker was Dr. Russell S. Sobel, a researcher, author and Professor at the School of Business at the Citadel.

The Lutgert College of Business is grateful to Branch Banking and Trust (BB&T) for their sponsorship of this series.

ISPA award 2016

October 2016: RHM Student Kelsey Brink Wins Scholarship

The International SPA Association (ISPA) Foundation has awarded the Mary Tabacchi Scholarship to two students, one of whom is Kelsey Brink, a student in the Resort and Hospitality Management program. The students were honored at the annual ISPA Convention in Las Vegas. Each was awarded a $5000 scholarship and a trip to the convention.
