Accessing FGCU File Shares with “myvpn.fgcu.edu”

Downloading a file from a FGCU filshare

1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://myvpn.fgcu.edu

2. Enter your FGCU username and password

3. Upon successful login, you will be redirected to the main screen.
Note: Internet Explorer may ask you to install an Active X control published by Juniper Networks.  If this is the case please go ahead and allow the installation.

4. Locate the “Files” section to see all the common file shares that you have access to.  These usually include your departmental folder, your cross departmental folder, and if available your faculty folder.

5. Click on the share you would like to access (for this example we will use Cross Department Folder)

6. A list of all the Cross Departmental folders will appear:

7. Click on the folder you would like to open, and you will see a list of files that can be downloaded.

8. Simply click on the filename, and the file will be downloaded to your computer. (If you would like to download multiple files at once, simply click the check boxes next to the file names to select all the files you would like to download at once, and click the “Download…” button.  The files will be automatically added a ZIP file that you will need to extract before being able to access the individual files inside).

 

Uploading documents to a fileshare

1. Navigate to the folder you would like to upload your file(s) to as outlined in the steps 4 through 6 in the “Downloading a file from a FGCU fileshare” section of this document

2. Click the “Upload Files…” button:

3. On the “Upload Files…” site, please click the browse button to select the file you would like to upload.  If you would like to upload multiple files at once, browse to the appropriate files on your computer until all are listed that you would like.  If you would like to rename the files upon being uploaded, type their new name into the “Save As:” text field:

    4. Click the “Upload” button at the bottom of the “Upload Files…” website.

    5. A box will appear showing you the progress of your upload:

    6. The file will appear in the directory once completed and can be accessed by anyone who has the appropriate rights.
