Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum
Historical & Cultural Sites
Vision: Connecting people to the natural world through their love of shells and the marvelous animals that create them.
Mission: We are a Natural History Museum that increases knowledge of, and appreciation for, mollusks and their shells using our collections, programs, and expertise to inspire learning, support scientific research, and tell the story of mollusks importance to people and the natural world.
||Two types of volunteer opportunities:
Adopt-A-Class Field Trips - Help teach visiting Lee County fourth graders about mollusks. Field trips take place on Mon-Thur. FGCU students must be present at the Museum from 10am - 12:30pm and must commit to at least two separate field trips (one for training, one for leading). The majority of field trips take place from January - May, but some are also in October - December.
Gift Shop and Exhibit Docents - These volunteer opportunities require a commitment of at least 1 half day (10am - 1pm, or 1pm - 4pm) per week for at least 1 month (gift shop) or 3 months (exhibit hall). These volunteers are interacting with Museum guests at all times.
