Harvest Time Ministries feeds the body and the soul. Every other Saturday during "season," food baskets, toiletries, diapers, baby food, clothing, shoes, blankets, Spanish bibles, and other articles of need are distributed in several Bonita Springs farm worker camps. Board members and helpers are all volunteers. Donations are received mainly from the private sector. Occasionally grants are obtained for things such as office equipment and storage rental (for the food and clothing). School supplies are distributed directly to the schools for the children in need. Harvest Time has also helped with other needs at times, such as medicine for an elderly woman, food, and clothing for other families in need on an emergency basis and during times of floods, fires, etc.
Help is needed on the Friday mornings prior to food distribution in bagging groceries and sorting clothing. Also, students may help with the distribution every other Saturday for the farmworker families. Lifting heavy boxes and loading have become some what of a problem for the mostly senior citizen volunteers, so help from the "young and able" is greatly appreciated. Students are able to see first-hand the great need right here in their own backyards. FGCU nursing students & Family Health Center volunteers helpful in taking blood pressures, assessing other medical needs.
