Organized sports activities include local, state, and national competitions. PAL involves well over three hundred children, many from subsidized housing. Athletes are required to have passing grades to compete. In the past, PAL had two paid staff members plus volunteers. Budget cuts this year, pared staff to one, Mr. Walt Westley, former NBA basketball player and coach at West Point. |
| Job Description: |
Currently need computer instructors and program coordinators. Need volunteers to tutor. Programs provided include boxing, basketball (boys & girls), softball (girls), baseball (16 and under), Adventure Club (youth council with elected officers; do community volunteer work, plan events such as field trips), flag football (co-ed), track & field, NFL punt, pass & kick, major league Diamond Fleer Competition, PAL Hot-Shot competition, archery (currently seeking instructor), computer lab, men's basketball league, PAL Day in the park, Cornerstone Ministries Saturday Program, Fort Myers Housing Authority and PAL Summer Camp, Sate PAL Day at the Florida Capital, Wali Jones (Miami Heat) Basketball Clinic, and State PAL Activity Day. |

2000 National Champs baseball (16 and under)! Local PAL hosts state and national events that result in hundreds of visitors who make use of local hotels, motels, and restaurants. Office is in donated portable classroom at Billy Bowlegs Park on Marsh Avenue, Fort Myers. Basketball games are held at the Stars Complex on Edison Avenue and boxing is at the Carrie Robinson Building next door to Stars. Affiliated with a national and state organization. All coaches are volunteers. |
