The organizational mission of The Sunrise Group, our parent companey, also a 501C(3)not-for-profit, tax exempt organization, is to provide people with disabilities the assistance and support necessary to enable them to live valued lives in the community. We believe that people with disabilities have the right to a full and productive life that includes a home, family, work, and community participation. History: We now generally use the aka of Sunrise Community of Collier County, but until 2000, we had been known and TECH of Collier County, Inc. It is still our official name. Originally chartered in 1972 as the Guadalupe Educational Improvement Center, Inc. The agency changed its name to the Training and Education Center for the Handicapped, in 1976, providing a wide range of services to individuals with disabiliteis in Collier County. The adult community based division was known as STRIVE. STRIVE'S major programs were Supported Employment and Supported Living. Then in 1998 we established our Adult Day Training program, adding to the adult services provided by STRIVE. Every year we directly serve around 100 adults in Collier County with developmental disabilities such as mental retardation, Autism, Cerebral Palsey, Spinal Bifida, and Prader-Willi. Additionally, we serve as an information clearing house to help hundreds of other individuals find out about or locate appropriate funding and services.
