Details: S.T.A.R.S is an acronym for Success Through Academic and Recreational Support. The STARS Complex, located at 2980 Edison Ave., is geared tward at risk children 6 to 14 years old, to help them academically, socially and athleticall through our after school program. We offer tutoring in reading, math and language arts, homework assistance, a computer lab, martial arts, a chorus, free swim lessons, a swim team, traveling basketball teams for girls and boys, free tennis lessons, a tennis team, Little League baseball, and "Girl Power" mentoring club for girls 12 to 14, to mention a few. Some programs we offer for adults are GED Tutoring, a men's basketball league, swim lessons, volleyball and aerobics. A few programs planned for the near future are, cheerleading, engineering/robotics course, adult computer classes, FCAT and SAT tutoring, drama instruction and a women's basketball league.
Job Description: Students will assist children in homework completion, tutor small groups of children in the areas of elementary and middle school reading, math and language arts, and direct small groups of children in educational or fine art projects. Also mentor, monitor and interact with children, along with city staff members, while they participate in leisure or recreational activities. Student may also choose to assist our various sports teams, such as, basketball, swimming, tennis etc.

Additional Information: We are always looking for new program ideas to diversify the choices offered to the children. Students may present any idea they have to the administration office.
