Details: The United Way Volunteer Center is the designated Volunteer Center for Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties. We help you locate opportunities to serve in our community. We work in collaboration with other agencies and organizations on special projects, events and initiatives throughout the year. We also have Service-Learning opportunities at our agency at certain times of the year.
Job Description: VITA –
Volunteer as a trained Tax Preparer. Volunteers will assist qualified clients by preparing simple tax returns. All volunteers receive FREE comprehensive training and materials for self-study on basic income tax law for federal returns and certification in partnership with the IRS. No experience is necessary. Volunteers are covered under the Volunteer Protection Act and are not accountable for tax returns filed to the IRS. Enjoy flexible hours while gaining a valuable and marketable skill to add to your resume. Training starts in November and tax preparation is from late January to April 15. ReadingPals
Inspire a love of reading! United Way manages a literacy program called ReadingPals. ReadingPals matches passionate, trained volunteers with pairs of Pre K and Kindergarten children who need extra help. ReadingPals volunteers help improve children’s literacy and oral language skills. They also build meaningful relationships by providing the individual attention many kids need to thrive. Volunteers spend one hour a week reading and engaging in educational activities with a pair of students. Commitment is through the whole school year. Interested in being a ReadingPal?
