SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA was established in November of 2002 as a 501(c)(3) corporation. The Affiliate is charged with the purpose of furthering the Komen promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. 75 percent of the net proceeds raised by the Affiliate will remain at the local level to fund a variety of community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved. A minimum of 25 percent of net proceeds will support the Komen Award and Research Grant Program. The foundation’s dream of a cancer free world is slowly being made into reality through a network of dedicated volunteers and strong community support.
