Invest In America’s Veterans Foundation, Inc. (IAVF) opened its office on September 11, 2009 with a clear mission to assist all Veterans to identify and secure their benefits. Located @ 3100 Del Prado Blvd.,S, Cape Coral, Florida, the IAVF’s commitment is to serve Veterans and their families from every generation. Approximately 70,000 Veterans currently live in Lee County; Florida being the second largest destination in the country for military retirees. On May 26, 2009, the Veterans Foundation received its non-profit ,[501(3)(c)], status, retroactive to Feb 6, 2009. Within a short period of time, local Veterans began finding us, adopting the Foundation as a neutral meeting place. The Veterans Foundation is currently open 6 days a week, serves lunch daily, the meeting place for the Korean War Veterans, sponsors a Veterans Alliance, and does it''s utmost to honor and support Veterans from all wars and empowering their continued service. From all of us who appreciate their tradition, and value their continued service, we want to honor our Veterans and keep their tradition alive. Please join us in this endeavor. Artifacts and memorabilia connected with the service of these veterans was being offered to the IAVF on an almost daily basis. These donations include medals, uniforms and equipment, as well as correspondence, photographs, and the news media items surrounding the items. The military museum/library project mushroomed practically overnight, and soon the walls of the Foundations offices were covered with donations of their precious war memorabilia. It soon became apparent that the Foundation was acquiring many valuable military artifacts, books and documents which needed to be preserved.
Community Advocacy - Counselors needed to assist Veterans and their families with all benefits - educational, medical, home ownership, job search, training. Museum Tech - In June 2010, the Veterans Foundation was awarded its American Association of Museum status from the Library of Congress - one of only fourteen in the United States for a combined museum and library. The Southwest Florida Military Museum / Library, open six days a week, is already in possession of several thousand military artifacts from all the major U.S. military actions from World War I, up to the present. Need: Assistance cataloging all items. Event Planning - The Veterans Foundation is continually involved in community activities and need volunteers to assist these events. Events have included: Bike Nite on the Cape, Heroes of the Air, BigBrothers/Big Sisters event, yard sale & cookout, Veterans Day Military Appreciation, Display and pig roast @ FGCU.
