Sports & Fitness
||The Foundation for the Developmentally Disabled strives to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families though: education, social and recreational activities; advocating for employment and housing options; and raising community awareness.
||We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available and would appreciate anything you are able to do for us. Below is a summary of some of the programs we have available.
Bowling League: FDD hosts two bowling leagues weekly (one on Monday mornings and one on Thursday afternoons). Assistance is needed as lane captains to help our clients keep score, and keep the flow of the games going.
Recreational Baseball League: We operate an adult baseball league on Saturdays from January to April. Volunteers are needed as coaches and assistants to the players.
Trailblazer Academy: A full-time, structured, community-based vocational and educational training program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have aged out of school supported services. Program participants perform job tasks at area businesses and nonprofits, work on employment readiness skills such as job interviewing and resume writing, have daily life skills training in nutrition & health, personal awareness and safety, and special enrichment experiences in the arts. Volunteers are needed to assist the Program Director and Instructors as job coaches, mentors and classroom assistants. This program runs Monday - Friday from 9am to 3pm.
Social Programs: FDD hosts monthly social events where we need “day of” volunteers for some of our monthly social events (which are held in the evenings, usually on the weekend). FDD also hosts special one day community outings and special events for our participants and help is needed to plan and supervise these events.
Basketball League: Volunteer coaches are needed for our weekly basketball league which meets on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm at North Collier Regional Park.
