Centro Para La Familia

County: Lee
Categories Education
Details: Centro Para La Familia is a non-profit organization located in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Our mission is to educate the community, especially our area’s many Mexican immigrants , by offering them English and Spanish classes from age 4 through adult to better enhance literacy and fluency. There is a high demand for literacy in both languages within this community. Many children in our schools are fluent “speakers” in both languages, however, they tend to be illiterate in their native language because the native language is not being taught in a traditional, public school setting. Centro Para La Familia exists to fill that gap.
We also offer citizenship classes to Mexican immigrants that are determined to become American citizens. Moreover, we have just recently partnered with the Mexican Counsel in Miami to launch a new program called “Plaza Comunitaria.” The services provided in this program will include computer software, materials, and resources that will support Mexican immigrants who wish to pursue a higher education. Centro Para la Familia will provide workspace with computers as well as many other resources and assistance to create a positive and effective learning environment.
