The Office of Service-Learning & Civic Engagement has the opportunity to hire Federal Work Study students and place them with an approved Community Partner Agency.  You can earn your Work Study funds while gaining real world work experience. 
 
Please read through the job descriptions below, complete a job application selecting up to 3 possible jobs, and submit the application to our office by August 26, 2013.  Once we have reviewed your paperwork we will begin calling students to set up the first round of interviews:
 
Center for Independent Living Gulf Coast

Independent Living Specialist:
This person will work under the direction of the site director of CIL GC and will provide peer counseling, information & referral and independent-living services to persons with disabilities and their significant others (family, friends, practitioners, etc.) when appropriate. They will also provide outreach to community entities to obtain or offer services on behalf of persons with disabilities. (For more information)
 
Community Cooperative Ministries Inc. (CCMI)

Kitchen and Dining Assistant:
CCMI is looking for a Kitchen and Dining Assistant. Ideal candidate would be someone with passion for and desire to learn more about food preparation and/or restaurant and kitchen management. Duties will include, but are not limited to: morning food preparation, morning dining room preparation, dining room service, and dining room/kitchen clean up. Student Activity Assistant:
The Student Activity Assistant responsibilities will include, but are not limited to; leading small and large group activities with residents in a skilled nursing facility, organizing and planning programming, completing activity assessments, working with ACHA’s MDS system and assisting to provide a higher quality of life to the senior population living at Cypress Cove. Students applying should feel that they are creatively inclined and would feel comfortable being asked to find solutions to activity needs. Example: Student’s first task would be to develop an activity program that would meet the needs of our short term stay residents. (For more information)

The AVID Tutor’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  facilitating small group tutorial sessions, supervising the inquiry process and making sure all students are actively participating, providing academic support and encouragement to students, providing written feedback and assessment. Harry Chapin Food Bank

Special Events Support Specialist:
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support to the Community Relations Manager and the Volunteer Manager with all Special events and Food Drives. This person will also assist with planning of the Hunger Walk event, coordination of community awareness about food and fund drives, other fundraising events, and general office duties as needed. Keep Lee County Beautiful, Inc.

Student Administrative Assistant Position:
Student administrative assistant shall assist Keep Lee County Beautiful (KLCB) staff with day to day operations of the organization. Duties include, but are not limited to; assisting with the promotion and coordination of major events, tracking necessary statistics for reporting purposes, conducting community educational outreach booths, cleanup and beautification projects. The job incumbent shall be available for certain events outside the normal workweek and shall serve as a resource to the staff. This is a position with flexible hours including some nights and weekends based completely on the availability of the student administrative assistant. (For more information)
Social Media Assistant:
The social media marketing assistant will play a major role in Keep Lee County Beautiful, Inc.’s (KLCB) social media outreach and marketing strategy. Duties specifically include:
  • Writing new content for the KLCB Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other accounts to promote KLCB programs
  • RSS building to track the KLCB’s presence on social media outlets
  • Interacting with KLCB volunteers and other interested parties who contact us through our social media outlets
  • Researching and reporting on new social media trends and services
  • Finding and cultivating social media contacts to spread the work about KLCB activities past, present, and future

Office Reception:
This person is needed to register/check out campers, collect tolls, rent canoes, sell ice and firewood, sell park passes, sell park merchandise, answer phones, and answer visitor inquires. (For more information)
Volunteer Coordinator Assistant:

Naples Botanical Garden

Student Volunteer Coordinator:
The selected student will be responsible for scheduling groups of 5-10 FGCU students to come to Naples Botanical Garden twice a week from September through May. This person will work alongside each group during visits and work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be interested in and able to perform horticulture work including, but not limited to: weeding, potting, mulching, pruning, raking, planting, moving plant debris, etc. Desired candidate should have availability from 8 am – 1pm during the week and 9 am – 2 pm on weekends. The Immokalee Foundation

Student Administrative Assistant:
The Administrative intern will work with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations and other staff to perform professional administrative work of an introductory nature in preparation for career advancement. Work assignments are related to the analysis of systems and procedures, organization and management, work-flow and distribution, work simplification, and improvement in efficiency. General responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: answering telephones meet and greet clients, research and compile data related to the Foundation’s program operations, prepare reports, presentations, documents and correspondence containing analytical and evaluative content related to business operations to review by higher-level staff members. The Naples Players

Scene Shop Assistant:
The Scene Shop Assistant will work closely with the Technical Director and with volunteers working in the scene shop.  Responsibilities will include: providing walk-through orientation to the shop and reviewing the Scene Shop Safety booklet with new volunteers; working on the day’s docket of projects, to include sawing, building, painting and maintaining a clean environment; and general scene shop tasks.  The assistant will learn to safely and correctly use power tools, how to read blueprints and how to build various scenic pieces such as flats and platforms.  Additionally the assistant will learn and apply various painting techniques.
Costume Shop Assistant:
The Costume Shop Assistant will work closely with the Costume Shop Supervisor and with volunteers working in the costume shop.  Responsibilities will include:  providing walk-through orientation with new volunteers; working on the day’s docket of projects, to include laying out patterns, cutting, sewing, fitting and trimming costumes; and general costume shop tasks.  The assistant will research the decades of the Twentieth Century and become knowledgeable about the fabrics and fashions of the eras depicted in The Naples Players’ upcoming season of plays and musicals.
Lighting and Sound Assistant:
The Lighting and Sound Assistant will work closely with the Resident Lighting and Sound Designers.  Responsibilities will include:  learning how to program both light and sound boards, how to set cues, hang and focus lights, and assist the designers in whatever maintenance chores are necessary. The assistant will become familiar with the upcoming play or musical and learn how to create a lighting or sound plot.  The assistant’s work schedule may include weekend and evening hours, depending upon the rehearsal and performance schedules.
