Preventing Slips, Trips & Falls
|
 |
People continue to slip up or trip over obstacles; slips, trips and falls (STF) are prevalent, costly and often "hidden" occupational injuries. At times unreported and ironically, a common response is "out of sight, out of mind" - they are often overlooked because companies report they don't know what to do beyond engineering and footwear interventions. These strategies, when well done, help to a certain point; but these methods most apply to enclosed plant environments.
Traditional "solutions" to slips, trips and falls are limited in many companies where people transition to their tasks or work outside. And even those organizations with little apparent risk of slips, trips and falls have these problems when there is demand for split attention or overload. Now, more and more companies with aging workforces have found that slips, trips and falls can become an even greater problem.
Worldwide experience has shown it is possible to break through plateaus of slip, trip and fall injuries. But for this to occur, it's critical to incorporate a practical strategy for taking action that incorporates understanding underlying causes of these injuries and behavioral skills that place workers more in control of their own safety.
As a result of participating in this Webinar, attendees should be able to:
-
Answer why workers really slip, trip or fall? Going beyond "coefficient of friction"
-
Identify impact on other injuries
-
Assess strengths and limits of traditional STF injury-prevention methods
-
Define essential mental and physical skill sets for STF safety
-
Identify high-grade training methods for preventing STF.
