Florida Gulf Coast University students found it easier to go green when they returned to campus.

FGCU Student Government has purchased seven do-it-yourself bike repair stations to assist our students that rely on their bicycles for transportation.  These bike repair stations include all the tools needed to make basic repairs from fixing a flat to adjusting the brakes.  There is even a scan code so students can use their mobile devices like smart phones for online tutorials on what to do to get their bike back on the road.

“I am thrilled that Student Government is providing these stations to help students keep their tires inflated and keep their bikes operating in top form.  Many students rely exclusively on their bikes for transportation, so it is important that they have a way to maintain them,” said sustainability coordinator Kathleen Crawford.

Over 20 percent of students that live in FGCU housing do not bring automobiles to campus. The campus also has other ways to encourage environmentally-friendly transportation options including a bicycle loan program, online carpool matching, and hourly car rentals.
