Facilities
Florida Gulf Coast University is shaping a campus environment that fosters productive interactions and is aesthetically enriched for enjoyment and inspiration. To maintain high standards of teaching and to utilize leading edge technologies require state-of-the-art teaching facilities and equipment. To this end, the University seeks property, facilities and equipment for this optimal learning environment.
There has been unprecedented growth in Southwest Florida, particularly in the geographic area immediately surrounding the campus. Planning for the future, FGCU seeks gifts of available land.
With academic programs expanding and new degree programs developing to meet the interests of its students and the needs of the region, facilities must keep pace. As a general rule, an academic building will be name for the donor contributing a facility gift of $5 million. A smaller ancillary facility may be named for the donor contributing a facility gift ranging upwards from $1 million. FGCU provides permanent naming opportunities of interior public spaces, such a galleries and conference rooms, for unrestricted gifts ranging from $100,000 to $1 million. Interior academic spaces range from $50,000 for classrooms to $100,000 for laboratories. Offices and office suites begin at $25,000.
State-of-the-art equipment is critical to the success of FGCU's many student and community programs. With the expansion of degree programs, particularly those in the sciences, advanced technical equipment is a necessity in the classroom research laboratories. In addition, WGCU Public Media requires additional production and dissemination equipment to support its own growing audience and future FGCU curricula.
Challenge Grant From The State of Florida
Gifts to build facilities are eligible to be matched dollar for dollar by the State of Florida's Alec P. Courtelis Facilities Enhancement Challenge Grant Program. Donors must provide a minimum of one-half the construction costs of an instructional or research-related facility that was designated as a mission priority by Florida Gulf Coast University. Music Education and Performance Building - Facility under construction August 2009 to Winter 2010

Florida Gulf Coast University is building a permanent home for the Bower School of Music. The State of Florida allocated $11.6 million to provide essential performance space that will help distinguish the Bower School of Music with excellence in teaching, performance, community service and research.
This 23,000 square foot, two-story signature facility will be a destination site for the greater community, overlooking a scenic lake and wetlands in a developing arts corridor on the main campus of Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida.
A comfortable, attractive Grand Lobby will welcome students and visitors to the music education and performance building. The focal point in the Grand Lobby will be a prominent commemorative wall of honor artistically designed and engraved by Sanibel artisan Luc Century. With a caterer's warming kitchen nearby, this 1,000 square foot lobby will function well for intermissions and receptions.
A 3,260 square foot 196-seat Recital Hall with superb acoustics, generous stage, good sightlines, and plush seating with ample leg room and personal space will offer audiences optimum music experiences. The Green Room will provide a quiet haven to guest musicians before and after performances. This Hall will be an exceptional performance venue for FGCU's Bower School of Music majors and guest artists.
Next to the Recital Hall will be an equally impressive Rehearsal Hall. This versatile 3,000 sq. ft. Hall with state-of-the art acoustical treatment will be ideally suited for band, orchestra, and choral practices. Both performance spaces will be served by secured equipment storage areas and will have direct access to the education wing.
Ten faculty studios for individual instruction are adjacent to three specialty classrooms that will accommodate 40 students each. A 12-student technology laboratory and a 12-student keyboard laboratory will support the educational activities in this wing. Additionally, there will be 10 student practice rooms for independent instrumental/vocal study (two rooms for percussion; two rooms with grand pianos, and six rooms with upright pianos), and a music library with collections of sheet music and CDs.
This specialty building, designed to accommodate growth both in enrollment and audience, is a collaborative design by Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Inc. in Fort Myers and Pfeiffer Partners Architects, Inc. in New York and Los Angeles. It is being constructed by Owen-Ames-Kimball Company and will be completed by the winter of 2010-2011.
