Graduate Student and Faculty Resources
The Office of Graduate Studies, in cooperation with numerous other offices at FGCU, provides a variety of resources in support of graduate students and faculty members. Some of those resources are described here with links to other web sites or to documents. Additionally, the Office occasionally releases newsletters describing its activities. This page is currently being expanded, so please check back frequently for new materials.
General News from Graduate Studies:
1. Newsletter September, 2006: Volume 1, Issue 1.
2. Newsletter October, 2007: Volume 2, Issue 1.

Materials / Announcements / Programs:
-
Thesis Guidelines and Forms. The following documents listed below are made available here to assist graduate students with thesis completion and submission:
a. Thesis Guidelines or directions;
b. Resources available through our library to assist thesis preparation;
c. A sample Thesis Title Page;
d. A sample Thesis Approval Page; and
e. A copy of the library’s Thesis Binding Form.
-
Graduate Faculty Criteria. For a faculty member to teach at the graduate level, mentor a graduate student, serve on a student’s graduate committee, or provide service to the university with respect to graduate education, he or she must be a member of the Graduate Faculty. The University has defined the minimum criteria that must be met to receive Graduate Faculty Status. Colleges, Departments, and Programs may require more stringent criteria. Please contact your chair or program coordinator to determine if something beyond the University criteria is required. Colleges typically have an annual call for Graduate Faculty Applications.
-
Research Assistantship Initiative. Once per year, the Offices of Research and Sponsored Programs and Graduate Studies issue a request for proposals (RFP) in support of graduate research assistantships. Proposals are to be authored by one or more graduate faculty members, and the awards are meant to support new, highly qualified graduate students that work collaboratively with a faculty member. The most current RFP is linked here. Accompanying the RFP are 3 supportive documents. They are:
a. Guidelines for proposal preparation;
b. A sample Evaluation Form used to critique proposals; and
c. A Cover Sheet and Checklist.

-
Student Interview Travel Initiative. The Office of Graduate Studies provides limited funding to Colleges in support of prospective graduate student recruitment travel. These monies are intended to bring the most promising candidates to campus to learn about our university. These requests must be coordinated through your College Dean. The most current RFP is linked here.
-
Research-related Graduate Assistantships Applications (to be filled out by graduate faculty members). Graduate Studies and ORSP have developed a new process for the awarding of research-related GAships. In the past, requests for this funding were made through the Graduate Studies Strategic Plans. Because plans are typically completed by program leaders and chairs and not by the faculty members that are most familiar with their research needs, a separate RFP process has been developed (see attached document). These forms are to be filled out by graduate faculty members, but reviewed and prioritized by your College Dean. The completed College package should be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office by December 1st. Completed applications should be passed on to your College Dean well in advance of that date.
-
Faculty Academy. Graduate Studies, in cooperation with a variety of other offices on campus, is developing a Faculty Academy - an annual series of workshops and programs designed to provide professional development opportunities to improve faculty research and student mentorship.
