General Information


Florida Gulf Coast University offers benefits to Faculty, Administrative & Professional (A&P), and Support Personnel (SP) employees. These benefits may include paid annual and sick leave, holidays, state and university sponsored insurance programs, and retirement. Due to the temporary classification of OPS and Adjunct Faculty positions, these employees are not eligible to participate in university sponsored benefit programs.

Benefits are a valuable component of your employee compensation, and the University is extremely proud to present our benefits package to you. You have an impressive selection of benefits to choose from, so review the following information and carefully consider your personal benefit needs.

New Faculty, Administrative & Professional (A&P) and Support Personnel (SP) employees have only the FIRST 60 CALENDAR DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT to enroll in the insurance plans of their choice. After the first 60 days, employees may only enroll during the annual Open Enrollment period, which takes place each year in the fall, for coverage effective January 1st of the following year. You may be allowed to make certain changes to your coverage if you experience a Qualifying Status Change (QSC) event (e.g. marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, etc.). You must notify the People First Service Center within 60 days of the QSC.

Employees are eligible for health insurance coverage on the first day of the month following their date of hire. However, the effective date of coverage will depend on the date the enrollment is completed and the required premiums are paid. The effective dates of coverage are always the first of a month and no coverage will be updated with the insurance carrier until premiums are received by People First.

How to Enroll Through People First

Benefit Enrollment

Enrollment in your State of Florida sponsored benefits is performed on the People First Website or by calling 1-866-663-4735. Prior to enrolling in your benefit programs, we suggest that you attend one of our Benefits Orientation sessions or refer to the Employee Benefits Guide for instructions.
