IX. University Resources
Library
The goal of the FGCU Library is to create for southwest Florida a thriving dynamic organization to serve as a model for the state and nation in collecting, conserving, and communicating information by utilizing the latest information technologies.
The Library is the heart of the university's academic enterprise, providing access to information in traditional and electronic formats. Librarians are available in-person, by telephone, by e-mail, and through an Electronic Reference Desk on the library's web site http://library.fgcu.edu/ to help with simple reference questions or complex research problems.
The library has over 200,000 volumes and 2,000 journal subscriptions, as well as full-text electronic journals and other electronic reference materials. There is an open computer lab in the library with access to the FGCU catalog and the catalogs of the SUS libraries, course reserve materials, electronic resources, the World Wide Web, a variety of applications software, document scanning, student email, and removable storage with floppy and zip drives.
Library services are carried out in real space and in virtual space. The real time and real space characteristics of the library provide a place that preserves an intellectual center of the campus for faculty, students, and others who require interpersonal and research relationships. The virtual space characteristics of the library provide an electronic environment for teaching, learning, and accessing information wherever it is located and whenever it is needed.
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center is a place where university students, faculty, staff and some families within the community-at-large, can access affordable early care and education programs for their dependent infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The Family Resource Center enrolls children from six weeks to five years of age.
To enroll your child, you can locate the initial application on the internet at http://family.fgcu.edu/FRCApp.html.
FGCU Foundation, Inc.
In 1993, the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, Inc., was formed to support the educational mission of Florida Gulf Coast University. The Foundation encourages, solicits, receives, and administers gifts for scientific, educational, and charitable purposes, all for the advancement of the university. The Foundation is actively seeking scholarship funds to attract and assist bright deserving students, as well as funds to establish an athletics program, for capital improvements, and for faculty and program enhancement.
The Foundation looks first to university employees for support. The Southwest Florida community interprets faculty and staff giving to their own institution as belief in the viability, strength, and purpose of the university. It makes the statement that our mission is worth supporting and is truly compelling. As an FGCU employee, you are encouraged to give through payroll deduction. A gift from you is important. To make an annual gift please call University Advancement at 590-1060.
