Special Open Enrollment Issue
This issue provides important information regarding the Annual Benefit Open Enrollment period.  Additional information is posted on our 2010 Open Enrollment page.  The Open Enrollment page will be updated periodically as more details become available, so please review the page often during the Open Enrollment period.

To Prepare for Open Enrollment

Logon to the People First website and reset your PIN, if needed.  Don’t wait until Open Enrollment starts to do this as the Service Center phones will be busy handling Open Enrollment inquiries and transactions.  To reset your Pin or to obtain your People First ID number, call the Service Center at 1-866-663-4735.

Check that your address is up to date in the People First System.  (Once logged in, from the main menu, select ‘Addresses’.)  If the current address is not correct, please notify HR of your new address by emailing from your FGCU email account.

Open Enrollment Period

Your personalized Benefits Statement and a 2010 Benefits Guide will be mailed to your home starting August 31, 2009.  Remember, your benefits statement will only detail the State sponsored benefits in which you are currently enrolled. It will not include information on University sponsored benefits such as Long Term Disability. Also, please note that HR will not be mailing HMO or supplemental plan packets via interoffice mail.  In the coming weeks, all brochures will be available via the HR Benefits website and will also be available on the People First website.

This year's Open Enrollment period begins September 14th and runs through October 9th.

During this time, you will be able to enroll in, change, or cancel your health insurance, life insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts and state sponsored supplemental insurance benefits.

Employees will have three ways to enroll in, change, or cancel their benefit elections for Plan Year 2010:

  • People First Service Center Enrollment - Service Center Specialists can be reached at 1-866-663-4735 Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Eastern Time.
  • Paper Enrollment Forms – You can request forms from a People First Service Center Specialist by calling 1-866-663-4735 or access enrollment forms online on the People First website.

Due to an anticipated high volume of system activity during Open Enrollment, we encourage employees not to wait to the last minute to make their 2010 Plan Year benefit changes.

Remember, the choices you make during Open Enrollment will take effect January 1, 2010 and remain in effect through December 31, 2010, unless you experience a 'qualifying status change' event.

You should consider your needs and available benefit options carefully in order to make the best possible choices for the 2010 Plan Year.

Annual Employee Benefits Fair

The Annual Benefits Fair will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 9 AM to 3 PM in the Student Union Ballroom.

Insurance and retirement vendors will be available to discuss plan details and answer any specific questions you may have. Many companies offering discounts to FGCU employees will also be on hand. Make plans to attend to learn more about your benefits to assist with your Open Enrollment decisions.

  • Register at the Human Resources table and pick up your 'Dance Card' to find out how to become eligible to win one of many fabulous door prizes.
  • SAC will be providing refreshments from 9 to 11 AM and hosting an Ice Cream Social from 1 to 3 PM.

Postcard reminders will be mailed to all Faculty & Staff at the end of August.  Turn in your prelabeled postcard at the Human Resources registration table at the Benefits Fair for a chance to win a special door prize.

HR looks forward to seeing you there!

Correction Period
As in years past, Benefit Confirmation Statements will be mailed to all employees who made benefit election changes. Confirmation Statements are scheduled to be mailed the week of October 12th.

Employees will have until 5:30 PM, Eastern Time, Friday, October 30th, to contact the People First Service Center in order to make corrections to their Confirmation Statement.
